Megastar Manual!

I have done several updates this weekend:

There is a first generation model C! Had to be, I thought, but now I have seen one thanks to an astute reader in Spain, and have updated the model C page accordingly.

While poking around in pocket pistols, I realized I never finished the model I. Probably other stuff, but I went ahead and "finished" this. Yes, there are questions and holes and not enough examples, but at least you can read my notes, and it's organized well enough now. A good future task will be to make an ID guide for the pocket pistols. Especially since people are coming to me, referred by the NRA, with wildly incorrect identifications.

And lastly, I have obtained a manual for the Megastar! This is among the most requested, and I have never been able to get one. It's pretty low-res, so if you have better, scan it well and send it on over. For true fans, there's also a brochure on the Megastar I have included at the bottom of the page. Enjoy all the glowing text and exciting photos.

I have the 0.40 cal Firestar from 1991. It's a fine gun, but the sights are obsolete by modern defensive handgun standards. Is there a possiblity of finding tritium sights, or fiberoptics, or even a laser, that will fit this gun? 4walthers@surewest.net

  4. Whoops. Comment moderation was broken. So, a bunch of responses if anyone is listening still:

Mag dealers (and tips and tricks) are listed on the site:

Megastar mags were a pain to get when the gun was new. They are around, but will be expensive. Like $40-50 last I checked. They peaked at close to $100 during the ban.

  5. No one makes aftermarket sites. But, if you are handy, you can make your own tritium. Not the radioactive gas, but the sights. Go to places like Candlepower Forums, and look for people importing Tritium vials. They are /technically/ illegal to just buy, but come in the mail just fine.

Then, drill out (or get a friend to drill out) the front sight. 1/16" is too big, but not so much too big to matter. Drill through, from the front of the sight through. No need to remove the sight, then. Mix up some epoxy real good, and stick it in. Try to get it centered; it'll generally do so, but if there's a bubble, it can get weird.

I like night fronts only (for lots of good reasons). If you want rears, then do the same work in the back side of the slide.
